I love the philosophy of the ‘Butterfly Effect’ which is when a seemingly insignificant thing happens, that causes the next thing to happen and so on, as the flow-on effects literally travel around the world.
Sometimes in life we find ourselves in the fortunate position of being able to visibly see or hear about these effects, but for the most part these shifts happen on the invisible plane and we may never know who, how or what has occurred as a result of our actions.
  • Someone then sent me a message as result of this post, which really touched my heart and reminded me we never really know anyone else’s story unless they are courageous enough to share it.
  • This prompted me to share the link to my weight loss journey story across my LinkedIn network. These 1,000+ people have either been colleagues, suppliers, clients or people I have met who are based all around the world as part of my 20+ year corporate career. When I pushed publish on that LinkedIn post I did so with both a lump in my throat and a knot in my tummy. I grabbed my dog and rushed out the door for walkies just as the first sensations of the vulnerability hangover started to kick in – ‘oh no what have I done?’ Trust me, the fear of all the ‘what ifs’ began knocking very loudly!
  • Well, I wasn’t quite expecting the volume of messages that I received after this post from people who reached out and shared their challenges and stories with me. I cried when I read about their past and present struggles and experiences, because I feel their pain. All human pain is the same, it just manifests in different ways for different people. Just as the process of healing from pain happens in different ways for different people.

Their stories reminded me that particularly in times of struggle, life can feel like a very solitary journey, but in reality we never walk alone. There is always someone ahead of us, someone next to us and someone following us.

These stories from all parts of the world reminded me that we all have choices every day and one of those choices in the word’s of William Shakespeare is “To be, or not to be, that is the question”. We can be the change that we want to see in the world through our actions, or not, it’s simply a choice.
Within the messages I received from people, they wanted to know how they too could put to rest the exhausting and soul sucking struggle of the loss/gain weight loss cycle. If I can do it, then anyone can do it!

I’m choosing to be the change, so I’ve creating a 7 day video series called ‘Creating your own Path of Least Resistance to your Weight Loss Journey’ and I’m going to make this available for free for everyone from 1st – 8th October 2021.

I’m going to share all the things I have learned as part of my journey, having trialed these out on myself first and supporting this with science.

Most importantly, at no point during these 7 days am I EVER going to mention food or exercise. Your eating and/or exercising behaviours are simply symptoms; they are not the root cause of your struggles.
I’m going to focus on how you can create your own path of least resistance, by using your Holy Grail to work for you, rather than against you. We experience struggle when we work against our self in an unconscious attempt to prevent us from doing something we unconsciously believe will put us in some kind of danger. Even when this makes absolutely no rational or logical sense – welcome to the ultimate paradox of life!
Every journey worth taking starts with an uncomfortable step, be this the sending of a courageous message, a vulnerable sharing post, a conversation or an action.
Just like the effect of the Butterfly flapping its winds deep within the Amazon Rain Forests, what may start with a seemingly insignificant action, can end up transforming someone else’s struggle into peace.
We can all be one link in a chain reaction. Please flap your wings, because it matters.
